sometimes i feel like going down
things to do to get over a hangover (in no particular order):
1. brush teeth
2. shower/bathe
3. drink orange pop, fountain style
4. lay in bed all day drifting in and out of sleep with any women's sporting event on (whenever that is actually available)
5. smoke some drugs
so here's the thing. i'm listening now to john lennon's "imagine" album. imagine is a great song. no one will deny the powerful message. i tell you what though, there's a number of better songs on there. "crippled inside" is more of lennon's style. "gimme some truth" is a classic attack on society, american president and all. "how do you sleep?" is a ridiculously brutal song that just destroys a former best friend. so angry. "jealous guy" is a sincere look at how stupid people are when they care for someone. the whistling is pure.
my favorite on the album has to be "oh yoko" as seen in the movie rushmore. it was in some other movie i saw once too, but cannot seem to recall now. the song is so great though. it's a love song written by one of the greatest songwriters of all time. it's so simple lyrically. and the fact that he's calling out her name directly inthe song is something that is taken for granted.
i don't hate yoko. i don't blame her for anything. now do i appreciate or respect her as an artist? no. but the thing is, lennon is this brutally talented artist suffering with serious bouts of depression his entire life. anyone who listens to his music knows this. listen to "yer blues" and don't tell me you don't hear that tone of emotion in most of his other songs as well. but then he finds this happiness with yoko. and it doesn't matter how many people hate her and dislike what he did because of her. that's love.
and that sort of love isn't easily replicated or found. so if you have a chance, go for it. lennon did and the beatles ended. but it was worth it. i'm glad he went for it.
